1-89 Cabramatta Road, Mosman

The original property was a single storey 2 bedroom property that was in extremely poor condition and offered no natural light to much of the interior.

The client was looking to remain in the property for the long term but needed a complete renovation, including the addition of a second storey, to accommodate their growing family.

There were many challenging aspects in this renovation and, as a heritage property, it was important to maintain the character and proportions of the original house throughout all of the internal and external renovations.

The clients couldn’t have been happier with the final result and the timeframe for completion.

The job included the following:

  • Addition of a second storey and utilisation of the cavernous roof space to create 3 generous bedrooms with a walk-in robe in the master bedroom, linen storage and a stunning bathroom accessed with a newly constructed period feature staircase. The use of the upstairs roof space area was done seamlessly to complement the original fabric of the period the house was originally built.
  • Creation of 11 carefully placed skylights to allow natural light into the entire interior of the property.
  • Complete renovation of the ground floor area, including reversal of the bathroom and kitchen spaces with a new bathroom and kitchen installed.
  • New 6 inch hardwood floors laid downstairs
  • Refurbishment of the outdoor areas, including removing the old tiles and cement and replacing them with period feature tessellated tiles and re-installation and polishing of the original stone stair treads and verandah surrounds.

12 Surfers Parade needed a complete renovation. This was a very old home, with classic 100 year old existing sandstone walls. The lower ground floor had deteriorated to the point of being uninhabitable. It was a treasure of a place, needing the respect and dedication of good restoration work to make it the home it was meant to be.
